| COMMERCIAL BAITS AND FISH BY PRODUCTS - Producing baits for crayfish, stone crab, and
lobster traps. Fish waste available for organic farming, fish meal production and fertilizers. Stoller Fisheries processes approximately seven million pounds of fish per year (September thru May) . All of the fish are freshwater fish and consist in large part of common carp followed by buffalo fish, sheephead, pike, lake herring, whitefish, and freshwater suckers. The amount of fish waste product (offal) varies by species from approximately 32 to 60 per cent of whole fish. Fish offal consists of skins, heads, eviscera (internal organs), and bone (cartilage). Total amount of fish waste available per season is approximately 2,000,000 pounds. Fish waste is primarily in two forms, internal organs is one form and the other form is bones, skin, scale, and small amount of flesh from the minced fish. Nutrient analysis:
The fish waste may be utilized for organic farming, fish meal production (48 to 52 % protein), liquified fish by addition of enzymes, composting (high in nitrogen), and production of formulated bait (crab, crayfish, and lobster) and formulated food (aquaculture). Skins from carp have been used to make leather products. Commercial baits distributed by Stoller Fisheries, for commercial trapping, are: carp heads (non-split and split), whole carp (1 to 3 pounds), buffalo fish heads, sucker heads, and shad. |
